India, a country that saw the rule of many dynasties, different kings to even the British Lords has a numerous number of historical monuments, forts and palaces that signify a glorious past. These remainders built during a time when technology wasn't so sound stands competent to modern architecture. Delhi

The capital of the country houses some of the ancient monuments, forts and mosques like the Humayun's Tomb, Purana Quilla, Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Jantar Mantar and Qutub Minar. India Gate, which serves as a memorial to all the Indian soldiers who lost their lives during the third Anglo-Afghan war and the First World War is another major tourist attraction. It also has inscribed on it the names of 13,300 servicemen. The names inscribed include the names of some soldiers and officers from the United Kingdom. India Gate is located near to the parliament and Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Other places of interest include the Gandhi memorial, Laxmi Narayan Temple and Akshardham Temple, which is the world's largest Hindu Temple. Delhi also has the best place for shopaholics - Chandini Chowk. It is one of the oldest and busiest areas in the city that has numerous numbers of shops providing almost everything from antiques to food.

Agra

Agra is well-renowned for Taj Mahal. Built by Shah Jahan, the monument stands as a symbol of love and houses the body of his beloved wife, Mumtaz. The monument built using marble displays significant architectural prominence. Another major tourist destination at Agra is the Agra Fort.

Take a 1 hr drive from Agra; one can reach another important tourist attraction, Fatehpur Sikri. The major attraction at Fatehpur Sikri is Buland Darwaza or 'The Gate of Magnificence'; as it is known. Buland Darwaza is one of the historical monuments that display the marvels of superior Mughal architecture. It was constructed by Akbar to celebrate his victory over Gujarat. It is also the highest gateway in the world.

Jaipur

Udaipur

Sahelion Ki Bari is a famous garden which contains several fountains, marble elephant and a lotus pool. The word Sahelion Ki Bari means Garden of the maidens. The garden was built by Rana Sangram Singh.

The place is one among the most romantic destination due to the presence of the Lake Palace Hotel. This famous hotel is situated in amid the Lake Pichola.

Varanasi

Varanasi - major tourist destination in North India

Famously known as the city of Lord Shiva, Varanasi is one of the top most spiritual places in the country. According to belief, anyone who dies here will be liberated from the cycle of reincarnation. It is also believed that a wash in the River Ganga will cleanse one from all his sins. The major places to be visited at Varanasi are the Beni Madhav Ka Darera or the Alamgir Mosque, Dasawamedh Ghat and the Bharat Mata Temple.
